By now you are probably aware the WHO (World Health Organization) has raised the alert for this flu to Level 4.  There are 6 levels of alerting, raising the bar to Level 4 is not good news. 

UPDATE:  4/30/09,  WHO HAS GONE TO LEVEL 5 

UPDATE: 5/1/09, Mexico has delisted the number of deaths from 168 to 12....HUH???

The same precautions you would take for any type of influenza apply here as well.  Most important is covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze combined with lots and lots of hand washing.  There is a Google map which is updated with each new case of Swine Flu.  Keep an eye on your area and if it appears and starts spreading please take it seriously.

Remember the Influenza pandemic of 1918-1919 killed between 40 and 50 million people.  It's estimated that 25 million were killed in the first 25 weeks.  Some estimates have the number of deaths as much as 100 million....so I suppose they don't really know, but it's a lot.  Not just the old and infirm, most victims were healthy young adults.  Please be careful and act responsibly....stay home if you're not feeling well.

Those who know me on Active|Rain....know I love taking and sharing pictures

Recently I learned that what I was seeing on my screen was not what my friend Debi Boucher was seeing on her screen.  We have lots of conversations about photography and related topics :-)  What happened was over small increments of time, my monitor was getting darker and darker...not noticeable on a daily basis.  I use 2 monitors, and while the secondary one is newer I just love my 4 year old Samsung. 

What I want to share here, after much online searching, is the best adjustment calibrator I found.  The last stages are very technical (I avoided them in the essence of time) but there are several stages in the beginning which will help you know if your monitor is doing it's best and will guide you in correcting any deficiencies.

Color is a funny thing....the more alike we see, the better we understand.  I'll be curious to see how many monitors out there are out of whack like mine was.  Mine's still not perfect but running about 90% or better.  I'll take that on a 4-year old.

"Cruising Along on the SS TPI-TANIC"
an Audience-Interactive Murder Mystery
April 18, 7:30pm

This year's murder mystery fund-raiser takes place on (of all places) a landlocked cruise.  As you infiltrate the different goings-on (being a good snoop is a big plus here) you might just pick up enough clues to solve this year's "who done it", remove the evil-doer from your cruise, and perhaps even win a prize!

Admission is $20.00 for members, $25.00 for non-members.  The doors open at 7:00pm with heavy hors d'oeuvres being served followed by a delicious dessert during the first intermission.  The show starts promptly at 7:30pm.  I've attended this affair before and it was lots of fun and laughs.

There will be a silent auction, door prizes.....and whatever other mayhem arises, hmmmm......

Saturday April 18, 2009  -  8am   to  12 noon

This Saturday, Brevard County Residents will meet for the Keep Brevard Beautiful Trash Bash at the Refuge.  Bring your friends to help with the clean-up!

The meeting place is the Refuge check-in site at 8am at the entrance to Bair's Cove Boat Ramp at Haulover Canal on State Road 3.  Please call 321.861.5601 to register for the clean up and get additional information.

You will be provided trash bags, latex gloves, water and snacks.  Long pants are suggested along with proper footwear, hat, insect repellent and sunscreen.  I was out there a week ago and the bugs were not bad, but we've had some rain so best be prepared.

Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who must sign a Refuge permission form.  HAVE FUN - it's a good deed and we all benefit :-)
