Gail,

It looks like the deer was just waiting for you to finish taking her photo.  Nice pic ma'am and keep up the good work.

Gail that's a nice clear shot.  What are you shooting with as far as camera & lens?

Posted by Kevin Cavanaugh Associate Broker, ABR, GREEN (Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate - Rand Realty) 8 months ago

Morning Roy....You're not kidding when you say "early" morning walk.  My early morning walk was from the bedroom to the office...LOL  Have a super Sunday and Fathers Day.

Hi Don...She certainly did not display any signs of fear or anxiety.  She really did just stand there until I was done.  Gosh, maybe I'm St. Francis incarnate....I could deal with that ;-)  Thanks for stopping by and wishing you a Happy Fathers Day too.

Hi Kevin...I'm using the Canon Rebel XSi and my favorite lens is Canon 100-400 image stabilized.  It's heavy but very effective.  I just checked the metadata and the lens was all the way out.  I was maybe 12-15 feet away so the long zoom allowed me to get in nice and close.  Happy Dads Day to you :-)

Gail, this one was worth putting a frame around it. Fantastic shot. Thanks.

Wow, Gail.  That is a beautiful picture.  Great job and thanks for sharing it with us.

Gail, that looks like a very close encounter or a really good zoom lens!  Beautiful picture!

Posted by Patricia Kennedy (Evers & Company Realtors) 8 months ago

Hi Toula...I knew you would like this picture :-)

Thank you Michael...you are always so supportive and I appreciate it very much.  Happy Fathers Day

Hi Gary...This was taken a couple weeks ago in Blue Heron Wetlands, the water reclamation area off HWY 50.  Been in there dozens of times, but this was a first.  Ain't she sweet.  Happy Dads Day!

They are cute but watch for tics!

Happy Fathers Day

Gail that is an excellent picture...I don't see too many deer down this way like I did in New England....

Posted by BLRGUY(Beach & Luxury Realty Inc) 8 months ago

"Voila" the frame! -)  Hi Gail ! She looks like she is  interested in what what you're doing...maybe she thinking "Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's a camera, it doesn't look like the rifles we saw in fawn school"

She is beautiful, I love her gorgeous brown eyes. Great shot (excuse the expression)

Posted by Mary Douglas, REALTOR ®, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado (United Country Ponderosa Realty) 8 months ago

Morning Gabe....she is a looker n'est pas.  I got the impression that she liked the attention which I'm always happy to provide my wetland friends.  Happy Dads Day.

Hi Pat....Close + zoom is the way I like it.  She was about 12-15 feet away and my lens was all out at 400mm.  Usually the only way we can see our animal friends this close is through a lens and I always enjoy the view.

Posted by Gail MacMillan - CRS, e-PRO, GRI ~ Titusville FL Real Estate Brevard County (Home Sweet Home Florida Realty) 8 months ago

She is just beautiful Gail.  I can't believe she let you get that close.  Thanks for sharing.  This one has to be among my favorites of things you've shared.

Wonderful expressions- she really trusted you ! She seems to be posing and maybe batting her eyelashes. We have island deer that often sleep in the vacant wooded lot next to our beach cottage- we can see up to 14 at a time- lesiurely walking down the street looking for food or shade to rest...They are very trusting and love visiting our yard to eat from our camelia bushes- which we have surrendered to them! It is funny our bushes are about 15-18 feet high and all the foilage/flowers from about 5' and lower are nibbled off. Oh well, they were here before us !

Charles...do we have tics in Florida ;-)  You know, I probably should think more about things like that, but when I'm shooting nothing seems to matter.  Happy Fathers Day to you :-)

BLRGUY....I've lived in Florida since 1977 starting with St. Pete Beach, Boca Raton, Lighthouse Point, Lake Worth and now Titusville.  I've tromped through the wetlands many, many times and this was the first time I've met up with a deer.  I find it amazing too!  Happy Dads Day.

LOL @Mary...yes I do have a frame but I don't think I have an action - YET!!!  This doe never took her eyes off me but not in a scared way.  She was calm and rather docile, I think she liked the attention which is my pleasure to provide.  Bad pun FeatherHead....LOL

Okay, Gail, now I know you have to have a telephoto lens on your camera, to be able to get such a great shot of this Bambi!

Posted by Caren Wallace-Portage Lakes Real Estate Agent (Stouffer Realty, Akron, Ohio) 8 months ago

Having a camera on and in hand at the exact right moment counts too for this great shot, amazing that it all came together, great photo.

Gail - That is an excellent shot!  She appears to be posing for you. Thanks for sharing and all the best.

Posted by Kenneth Bargers (Prudential Woodmont Realty) 8 months ago

Morning Tammy....She had no problem with me getting so close.  I first saw her up the road so I started walking with the camera, took a couple of far shots.  I saw where she entered the bramble and when I got there she just looked at me, very calm - no anxiety.  She was a perfect model :-)

Michele.....You are the best, I love your attitude as I feel the same way.  I feel so sorry for all the wildlife that is being displaced because of man's encroachment and housing needs.  Thank you sharing your Camelias and your thoughts.  Have a superb day.

Gail, What a lovely face on this little doe! She looks absolutely relaxed, and as if there is no problem in the world with a another lovely lady taking her picture!

LOL @Caren....you know I'm always wandering around with that big 'ole 400mm lens just waiting to get in some unsuspecting face.  Yikes....maybe I'm becoming the Paparazzi of the Swamp.  There's a thought!

Hi Mary....I actually persue these moments....relentlessly....LOL  So when woman meets subject, she's ready :-)  Thanks for stopping by today, always appreciated.

Hi Harry....thank you so much, where is your SS picture ;-)  Happy Fathers Day, enjoy it ALL day!

Hi Ken....she seemed happy to have the attention, and believe me....the pleasure was all mine.  Have a great Dads Day too :-)

Oh my goodness - what a beautiful picture!  I just can't believe that you were able to get that shot of here - no fear, no worries, just a "hey there" kinda look on her face!

Hi Deb....and that pretty much describes our interaction, calm and pleasant.  Her face is beautiful, isn't it.  That was a lucky day for me to find her, I'll always be looking out for her every time I go back.  k - I'm off to see what you've done for us today.  Did you see I have a frame but not necessarily an action.  Can I get you to help me with that during the week, thanks :-)

Gail, the deer looks like it is posing for you.

Posted by Gary Woltal - Associate Broker REALTOR® Dallas Ft. Worth (Keller Williams Realty) 8 months ago

Hi Leesa.....that's exactly what it was like with her!  I think if we, as humans, have no fear it translates to the animals....it's a feely kinda thing and I LOVE IT :-)

You look adorable in your new picture....smiling

Hi Gary....LOL, the deer whisperer out and about in the wetlands.  Happy Fathers Day.

I'm off to the gym.....catch you later, happy Sunday to everyone :-)

Gail - I agree with Gary, the deer appears to be posing for you!  I continue to be amazed at the pictures of animals, and swiftly moving animals that are captured so well by some photographers here on Active Rain.  I can shoot inanimate things (sometimes) - but moving targets are not my forte'.

Gail,

What a great capture. Even with a telephoto lens it's pretty hard to get that close to a deer in the woods. The deer is posing better than a lot of people can.

Rich

Hi Myrl.....trust me this doe was going nowhere, just standing back in the brush looking at me with those big brown eyes.  I swear she was enjoying the moment, calm and peaceful as could be.  She is a cutie!!!  Oh, and you can shoot anything....always, you're too modest ;-)

Thank you kind Lou....I'm very pleased that you like this shot.  Happy Dads Day.

Hi Rich....even though I've not seen deer in the wetlands before I think she must be acclimated to people.  There's a huge RV Resort called The Great Outdoors which borders these wetlands and there are plenty of wooded spaces back in there.  If you notice in the background there is actually a wire fence just beyond where she is standing.  She probably has some access points that she uses to go back and forth.  She made it very easy to get this shot.  Happy Fathers Day~

OK, which issue of National Geographic did you scan that image from?!!!!

Such a great photograph, Gail.

You've got the touch.

Hi Gail-I love this pic. So gentle and so innocent looking. His ears look big compared to the rest of him. I think he would be easier to cuddle up to then Debi B rare cat. LOL

Love your redwinged blackbird. I haven't seen one in years. Grandma was really funny with her hearing problem in your Friday laugh. It sure did bring a big smile. <SMILE>

Hi Donna...thank you so much.  I just love her sweet face, I hope I see her again.

Hi Konnie.....I know what you mean.  We don't have a deer problem so never have to come to grips with culling, thank God!  It just sounds so awful.

Hi Liz....It's always a joy for me when I download the photos and get a chance to see close up what otherwise I could never get to start at.

Hi Hannah....LOL, are you still high and dry!!! Glad you like my doe :-)

Hello Mangiggly....that about sums it up perfectly, glad you stopped by.

Thank you Steve....All the years I've lived in Florida - this was a first, a very nice first :-)

Craig...you have such a way with words, no wonder we all LOVE you, you're a keeper :-)  BTW that would be some scanner...hahahaha!

Hi Sharon.....ummm, he's a she.  This time of year you can tell by the antlers or lack thereof.  Debi told me this, guess they have more deer in Colorado so they know these things ;-)  Hope you feel better soon!

Posted by Gail MacMillan - CRS, e-PRO, GRI ~ Titusville FL Real Estate Brevard County (Home Sweet Home Florida Realty) 8 months ago

Right you are. I should have know that cause I used to have a lot of them in my backyard when I lived in NY. They were very tame and would steal the birdseed out of the feeders. I did know they lost their antlers but I didn't remember what time of year. P.S. This is an extra thank you for my adorable kitty pic and the well wishes. Debi B brought me the most beautiful orange flower tonite. I hope one day to meet you both. <SMILE>
